It was bound to happen sooner or later: Smoking bans have become downright confusing. In Indiana there has been some confusion mounted over recent public smoking bans. The confusion has come primarily due to the signs. We’ve talked about how there needs to be a redesign of the traditional no smoking design to accommodate the recent waves of smoking bans and how products like e cigarettes and smokeless tobacco fits into the equation.
The confusion comes not only from the fact that there are different products out there now that do not fit the description of conventional cigarettes, but there are a lot of people who are confused by the laws in and of themselves. Signs that declare certain areas to be designated smoking areas would go a long way to put this confusion to an end, but thus far there are no plans to come out with such a sign. At this point it is better off for the smoker if they simply do some research as to what the public smoking laws in their area are.
With so many people finding products like inexpensive e cigarette starter kits it is becoming difficult to make the full distinction between regular cigarettes and e cigarettes with simply the traditional smoking signs. It is also relatively confusing for the people who have to actually hang the signs in their establishments. At this point one can’t help but think that there has to be a better way of doing things.
